NICK MAGNUS: Straight On Till Morning (magnificent instrumental production from the keyboards wizard that was once a vital member of Steve Hackett’s recording and touring band, appearing on all the Charisma LP's) - Magnus is really from the progressive school of keyboard players, right up in the same league as Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman and Tony Banks, with perhaps a few hints towards the music of Yanni and Patrick O'Hearn. "Straight On Till Morning" falls very much into line with the type of music you might associate with these great players - slick melody lines over washes of lush strings (with a Mellotron here and there), flamboyant chord structures and driving percussives - you can just imagine this nimble fingered genius strolling round an arsenal of keyboards in true 70's fashion! If you have heard his track "Night Of The Condor" on the brilliant "Rime of the Anclent Sampler-The Mellotron Album", then you will have previewed part of this new solo album - "Condor" is a fine example of Magnus' highly polished and refined keyboard work. "Straight On Till Morning" is possibly not for the real electronic/space fans, but if you are a lover of genuinely melodic, progressive instrumental symphonic synth music then you can't go far wrong with Nick's CD in the collection!
